Application and selection process for LifeChips IGERT Fellows

• Visit LifeChips website and read information about the program.
• Submit applicationFill out application on web site (indicating home department)
• Submit personal letter if intent Letter contains (1) why student wishes to participate in program, (2) what area of research student intends to pursue, (3) statement indicating intent to comply with LifeChips requirements.
• Submit recommendation lettersHave two recommenders upload recommendation letters
• Review by selection committeeSelection committee (PIs and Director) review application materials and makes recommendations.

You will need to have the following items ready before you complete your online application process:

• Name and contact information for two individuals who will be submitting letters of recommendation on your behalf.
• Personal Statement
• Resume

Application Deadlines and Dates

Please note that there are two key deadlines for you to be aware of. The Application Deadline is the date by which your application and personal statement must be submitted online. The Supplemental Document Deadline is the date by which all supporting documents (letters of recommendation, transcripts, proof of U.S. citizenship or residency and proof of health insurance) must be received. Because supplemental documents may be submitted in hard copy, it is important that you allow enough time for mailing.

Extended Application Deadline: March 31, 2010

• Application and resume (to be submitted online)
• Personal Statement (to be submitted online)

Supplemental Document Extended Deadline: March 31, 2010

• Two letters of recommendation (to be submitted online or mailed by recommenders)
• Current, official transcript, including grades from prior year’s fall term (to be mailed)
• Official transcripts from any prior colleges or universities (to be mailed) [Alternatively, students can ask their individual department graduate coordinators to forward transcripts]
• Proof of U.S citizenship or permanent residency (to be mailed)
